Can A Drain Snake Damage Or Break A Pipe?

Can Snaking my Residential Building Drain Damage my Plumbing Pipes?

Use a plumbing snake or hire a professional plumber to hydrojet your lines when you get a clog in your plumbing drain pipes. Snakes are designed to twist and drag them out into clogs. The drain will be transparent when it works. The clog might end up much worse when the method fails and/or be pushed further down the drain line. By contrast, hydrojets break up and push clogs down the drain line into the municipal sewer system that cleans your residential building drain line better than a snake without compromising your pipes' structural integrity.

How Plumbing Snakes Work

Plumbing snakes can be called drain snakes or augers for plumbing. Everybody performs the same role regardless of the name. The drain snake goes down the drain to clog when you have a clog in a drain pipe. The snake's head incorporates a wire, ring, or claw to grab and clear the clog.

The majority of the clog is taken out of the drain when it fails, and the remainder of the clog are flushed with water into the sewer system. If it doesn't work, either the clog won't be removed or pushed further down the drain, making it harder to remove.

Drain Snakes and Plumbing Pipes

If a drain snake does not clear a clog, it means that there is a serious problem with your pipe. The line may contain tree roots, fallen pieces of pipe from a severely corroded line, or another hard object that obstructs the pipe. The drain snake will not dissolve the clog in these situations, and you will need a professional plumber's services.

Furthermore, you can damage your pipes by using the wrong type or size of plumbing snake. Many different types of plumbing snakes are available for large drains, including mini-rooters, toilet snakes, top snakes and frogs. If you are using the wrong type of drain snake for the drain line, the snake can loop back on itself or scrape the sides of the plumbing pipe, causing damage that may lead to leakage and/or the need to repair the pipe.

Hydro jetting to Clear Clogs

Hydrojetting is a more secure option than snaking a drain. A strong stream of water is blasted through the pipe when a drain is hydrojetted. This breaks apart without damaging your plumbing pipes and clears the clog. Hydrojetting is also more complete. Snakes can leave behind debris that can help create a new clog. The drains can be completely clear by having a professional plumber hydrojet.

Cleaning and Extending Your Drain Pipes Useful Lives with Pipe Lining

You may want to consider having your pipes lined with an epoxy liner if your drain pipes are severely corroded, blocked or narrowed by debris. Before installing the new liner, the pipe lining process involves inspecting and cleaning your pipes. This means that before the lining process, your drain lines will be completely free of clogs and debris. This ensures the maximum diameter of your pipes, which can increase the flow rate through the pipe.

Once your pipes are lined with our epoxy liners, the extended useful life of your pipes is extended, and you do not have to worry about further corrosion occurring in the host pipe. Pipe lining is also more affordable than pipe replacements because drywall and other finishes are not extensively removed.
